My first college attempt lasted one week. I left campus heartbroken—I’ve loved learning since I was young, and I imagined college to be my long-awaited homecoming.
Academia was rare for the women in my family and in the community I knew growing up. I treasured the opportunity to attend college, but I wasn’t prepared for how overwhelming it would feel to blaze a new trail alone. Making the best decision I knew at the time, I returned home and enrolled in a local college—equally relieved and devastated.
Two years later, I returned to my original campus—first to complete my undergraduate degree and then to attend graduate school. Those back-on-campus years were beautifully healing, but I still carry the ache of what I didn’t know then—that I could’ve given myself more time, more support, and more trust in my own courageous process.
I made my earlier decision to leave campus largely on my own. I was fiercely independent in the midst of my family's love, but I didn’t yet know how to lean into the most ideal conversations that could have helped me feel seen, supported, and less alone.
Looking back, I see how profoundly I longed for a gentle space to process it all—a relationship without agenda, someone to walk beside me as I found my way forward. Not someone to fix or advise, but someone to help me quiet the noise, listen inwardly, and discover my own voice.
That longing shapes the work I do today. We often become the people we once needed.
If you're here, you—or your daughter—may be navigating a similar crossroads or simply the challenges the college years hold. I offer the kind of thoughtful, empowering support I once wished for: a steady presence, a curious companion, and a deep respect for your process. Let's walk through this season together. It would be my honor.
